Loans Against Classic and Collector Cars

Discreet lending of £61,000 to £2,000,000 secured against Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, McLaren and significant pre-war and modern collector cars, exclusively for certified high-net-worth individuals.

Who this is for

Liquidity against the car you already own

SAFE Lending Co provides direct classic and collector car loans across the UK, secured against Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, McLaren and significant pre-war and modern hypercars. Loans start at £61,000 and scale to £2,000,000, with terms of 3 to 12 months and no early repayment fees after the initial 3-month period.

Our clients are typically collectors and asset-rich individuals who want to release liquidity without selling: to bridge a property transaction, settle a tax bill, fund a business opportunity, or take advantage of an investment window. The car stays in our climate-controlled, insured facility. You retain ownership, remain the registered keeper, and keep any market upside in the meantime.

Roughly 85 per cent of pawnbroking clients redeem their assets at the end of the term. Most never intended to part with the car permanently; they simply needed liquidity for a short window. Our service is built around that outcome.

What we lend against

Pre-war Bugattis, concours-grade vintage, air-cooled 911s, Ferrari Specials and modern hypercars. Each car valued on its own merits: provenance, originality and matching numbers first, with concours and certification premium where they exist.

Ferrari

Front-engined V12s (250 GT, 275 GTB, 365 GTB/4 Daytona, 550 Maranello, 599 GTO, F12tdf), mid-engined icons (308, 328, F40, F50, Enzo, LaFerrari) and modern Special Series (458 Speciale, 488 Pista, 812 Competizione) are all within scope. Classiche certification supports the valuation but is not required.

Porsche

Air-cooled 911 in all generations including 2.7 RS, 3.0 RS, 930 Turbo, 964 RS, 993 GT2 and RS. Water-cooled GT cars including 996/997/991/992 GT3, GT3 RS and GT2 RS. Carrera GT, 918 Spyder, 959 and 928 GTS. Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) supports valuation.

Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce

Aston Martin DB4, DB5, DB6, V8 Vantage, V12 Zagato, One-77, Vulcan and Valkyrie. Pre-war and post-war Bentleys including Blower, R-Type Continental, S-Series and Continental GT. Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, Phantom and Corniche. Heritage Trust certification considered.

Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, BMW

Lamborghini Miura, Countach, Diablo, Murciélago and limited-run hypercars. Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and Roadster, Pagoda SL, 190 SL, AMG Black Series and SLR McLaren. BMW M1, E30 M3 Sport Evolution, Z8 and CSL homologation specials.

Modern hypercars and limited series

McLaren F1, P1, Senna and Speedtail. Pagani Zonda and Huayra in all variants. Bugatti Veyron, Chiron and limited editions. Koenigsegg, Rimac, Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 and similar low-volume hypercars. Allocation and production-number documentation matters.

Pre-war and concours-grade vintage

Bugatti Type 35, Type 51, Type 57 SC, Talbot-Lago, Alfa Romeo 8C 2300/2900, Mercedes 540K, Delahaye 135 and similar. Pebble Beach, Villa d'Este, Goodwood Revival and Concours of Elegance provenance directly supports valuation.

Valuation

How your car is valued

Every valuation is built on marque, model, year, chassis number, originality and matching numbers, benchmarked against live market data from RM Sotheby's, Gooding, Bonhams and Artcurial, plus recent private treaty sales through known specialist dealers.

  • Provenance, originality and matching numbers

Documented ownership chain, original engine, gearbox and chassis numbers, and factory-correct specification are the primary value drivers, particularly for pre-war, 1960s and 1970s icons. A numbers-matching DB5 or 911 2.7 RS trades materially above a re-shelled or re-engined example.

  • Marque certification and heritage documentation

Ferrari Classiche Red Book, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Mercedes-Benz Classic Center documentation, Aston Martin Heritage Trust certification and FIVA passport each add measurable value. Concours history at Pebble Beach, Villa d'Este or Goodwood Revival is independently liquidity-positive.

  • Live auction comparables

We benchmark against current results from RM Sotheby's, Gooding & Company, Bonhams, Artcurial and Mecum, plus recent private treaty sales through known specialist dealers. You see the comparable lots used in your valuation, not a static figure from a price guide.

Storage

How your car is stored

For the duration of the loan, your car sits in an allocated, climate-controlled, insured facility, handled by trained classic car specialists, conserved mechanically, and inspectable on request.

  • Climate-controlled, fully insured storage

Cars are stored in a humidity- and temperature-controlled facility under your name. Allocated bays mean your specific vehicle is set aside, never used or moved for any other purpose. Comprehensive insurance to agreed value for the duration of the loan.

  • Mechanical and battery conservation

Vehicles are placed on trickle chargers and tyres protected against flat-spotting. Fluids and seals are monitored, with periodic gentle running where appropriate to preserve mechanical condition. All maintenance during storage is logged and itemised.

  • Enclosed specialist transport and inspection rights

Door-to-door collection by insured enclosed transport with experienced classic car handlers. You may inspect your car during the loan with 48–72 hours' notice. Chain-of-custody and condition reports available on request.

Pawn or sell?

Selling ends your position. Pawning keeps you in the car.

Selling a classic car (at auction, to a dealer, or privately) ends your position in it and is rarely the most economical route when the need is short-term liquidity. A loan secured against the same car gives you the cash you need and leaves both ownership and market upside in your hands.

  • Auction sale typically costs the seller 8–12 per cent in commission, with a further buyer's premium (often 12–15 per cent) suppressing the hammer price you achieve.

  • Dealer trade-in or consignment offers commonly sit 15–25 per cent below open market value to leave room for resale margin and reconditioning.

  • A loan secured against your car is not a disposal. You retain ownership, future market upside and the option to keep the vehicle indefinitely.

  • 85–88 per cent of pawnbroking clients redeem their assets at the end of the term. Most never intended to part with the car permanently; they simply needed short-term liquidity.

Figures are indicative market norms, not specific to any individual sale. Speak to a qualified tax adviser for guidance on the tax treatment of selling a classic car in your circumstances.

Classic Car Lending: Common Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from clients borrowing against classic and collector cars.

Yes, materially. Original engine, gearbox and chassis numbers, factory-correct paint and trim and an unbroken documented history typically support a premium of 30 to 100 per cent over a comparable re-shelled, re-engined or heavily modified example. We factor restoration history transparently into the valuation.

Yes. Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Mercedes-Benz Classic Center documentation, Aston Martin Heritage Trust certification and FIVA passport each provide independent verification of originality and meaningfully support the loan-to-value we can offer.

Restorations by recognised marque specialists (Bell Sport & Classic, RS Williams, Talacrest, Maxted-Page, Tuthill, GTC Engineering, DK Engineering and similar) typically support stronger valuations than unattributed restorations. We assess the quality, originality of parts used and standard of finish, and discuss this with you during valuation.

Yes. The car remains registered in your name and you remain the legal keeper throughout the loan. The loan agreement and our security interest are separate from DVLA registration. We do not transfer ownership unless and until the loan defaults and the car is sold to recover the debt.

Yes. After the minimum 3-month term, you can redeem your car at any time with no early repayment fees or exit charges. Simply repay the outstanding loan balance and accrued interest, and we arrange collection or delivery back to you.

Provided we have full asset information, photographs, service file and proof of ownership, we can typically authenticate, value and fund a classic car loan within 5 to 14 working days. Pre-war and ultra-high-value modern hypercars may require additional verification time including marque specialist inspection.

We always work with clients to explore extension options before this point. If the loan is not repaid by the end of the agreed term, the car may be sold to recover the debt, typically via a specialist auction house or private treaty through a known dealer. Any surplus funds from the sale above the outstanding balance are returned to you.
